with Diane Holt (Thrive Ireland)

'How to bring Church life and the Good News into your local community'

Many churches now see the need to engage in meaningful ways with local community life - but don’t know how to go about it. For some, there is a desire to face up to social issues by living out our faith as salt and light in our daily activities - but how is this best achieved? Does this describe your church? Have you been discussing whole-life mission and community engagement - and you’re looking for a way forward?

At the Engage! presentations, Diane Holt (Thrive Ireland) will lead a practical discussion on how to bring your Church life and the Good News into your local community. Plan now to bring leaders and members of your congregation or fellowship to this inspirational and informative session.

In the course of the presentation, and with reference to the Umoja* process used by Thrive Ireland, Diane will:

  • Outline practical ways to listen to your community and discover the needs that are there.
  • Show how you can unlock the potential of your congregation and create good communication.
  • Give guidance on developing and implementing a plan for community engagement that everyone can own.

*Umoja is a Swahili word meaning togetherness. Umoja is a process developed by Tearfund and used by a number of global development organisations to enable church and community transformation. The facilitated process creates space for churches to take time to listen to God, to each other, and to their local community. This process has the potential to build and heal relationships at local level. The emphasis is on discipleship and mission which enables churches to develop an understanding of community development and action.

To allow as many as possible to attend, the 2-hr presentation will be delivered 3 times on Tuesday 13 November 2018:

10.30 am - 12.30 ; 2.00 - 4.00 pm and 7.00 - 9.00 pm

The same content will be delivered at each session.

The cost to attend Engage! is £10 per person including tea/coffee.

Diane Holt’s journey with whole-life mission and community development began in 1996 when she was asked to develop what became The Link Family and Community Centre, enabling Christians in Newtownards to engage more effectively with local community need. During that time she was trained in the Church mobilisation process by Tearfund and became a freelance facilitator. In 2011, she moved to Tearfund full time as Church in Community Advisor with their IMPACT UK team. She is currently Director of a new charity called Thrive Ireland and also works as a Development Facilitator for South and East Africa for Tearfund’s Inspired Individuals Programme. She is passionate about Church Community Transformation and supporting and enabling Christian leaders to fulfil their vision. She is married to Alan and has two children, Sam and Iona.
